Patrick Rafferty, CIH, Founder and President

Patrick Rafferty is the founder and president of Rafferty & James, Inc.

Mr. Rafferty is a Board-Certified Industrial Hygienist (MSPH, CIH) with over 30 years experience in public health, industrial hygiene, and indoor air quality, as a consultant to employers, property owners and managers, and the legal community. He is a recognized expert in the prevention, investigation and management of indoor air quality issues in commercial, residential and public facilities. His expertise encompasses mold growth in buildings, sick building syndrome, chemical contamination, and Legionnaire’s Disease. He has served in an expert capacity in criminal and civil cases, workers’ compensation disputes, toxic tort litigation, insurance disputes, and hazardous waste site litigation. He has advised government agencies, corporations, and private homeowners, traveling from the Amazon to the Arctic Circle for field investigations.

After completing a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware, Mr. Rafferty earned an M.S.P.H in Environmental Chemistry and Biology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He has been a Certified Industrial Hygienist under the American Board of Industrial Hygiene since 1986. He is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s (AIHA) Indoor Environmental Quality Committee and Product Stewardship Committee, and has been a member of the AIHA Task Force on Microbial Remediation.

Mr. Rafferty has co-authored and edited several books and articles on topics related to environmental health and safety, including AIHA’s The Industrial Hygienist’s Guide to Indoor Air Quality Investigations and Report of the Microbial Growth Task Force.
